Last month, our Best Food Forward team attended the Big D&T Meet in Norwich, the first major event for Design and Technology in years, expertly organised by Kate Finlay, D&T teacher and Subject Specialist Associate with Inspiration Trust.
We represented food education alongside organisations like the Food Teachers Centre, British Nutrition Foundation, and Leiths. Despite food's sometimes uncertain status in D&T, the day sparked valuable discussions among the many food teachers present.
The packed agenda featured over 30 keynote speakers and various events, with our team in the mini village area showcasing our Food Education Mapping Project and Secondary School delivery programmes to generate interest in our Food Education event next June. We also conducted a Sensory Analysis of Bread, inviting attendees to taste and describe different breads from the School of Artisan Food.
The day's key takeaway was the palpable energy from teachers celebrating their subjects together, which underscores the importance of collaboration and idea sharing in education. To create fantastic opportunities for all students, we must invest in our teachers and celebrate events like this.
We're excited to announce our Food Education event in June 2025, aiming to highlight the role of food education in secondary schools and foster connections among food teachers nationwide. To learn more about our conference next June, click here.
